The Last Shadow Puppets

Exclusive: It's not the end for The Last Shadow Puppets, band say

THE Last Shadow Puppets say they will make a second album - despite breaking up for the foreseeable future.

The band, formed by Arctic Monkey Alex Turner and Rascals man Miles Kane, have gone back to their respective groups for now.

But the boys say they intend to follow up on their acclaimed collaboration The Age Of The Understatement as soon as they are free from other commitments.

Alex said: "It's the end of the journey, for now anyway.

"We will definitely make a second Shadow Puppets album. It's difficult getting a timeframe sorted though."

During their forthcoming January hiatus, Miles has joked about travelling in Marrakech or Italy with his acoustic guitar to get away from it all.

Alex added: "He's got to do Marrakech first, so we need to see just how long that rainbow is."

The guys played Glasgow's Carling Academy as part of their 'final fling' last night, before heading back to their respective bands.

Miles admitted that releasing The Rascals' debut album Rascalize after the extremely successful work by The Shadow Puppets had a negative effect on his band.

He told this week's NME magazine: "I love my band, but there is the fact that this album has done better, and sold more copies.

"But at the same time, it's a poppier record than The Rascals. It's easier on the ear for a lot of people. But there's no point worrying about it.

"I'm in a boss band with my two best mates, and I'm doing this project with my other best mate. It's just the way it worked out."

The Shadow Puppets have so far had amazing success and the guys reckon the lack of pressure helped to give them a special freedom.

Alex said: "Nobody ever knew we were doing it, and that made it all a bit easier. It was such an enjoyable few weeks doing that record.

"Probably one of the contributory factors was that it was free from other people's expectations. Even the label. They just said: 'Go ahead, see how it turns out."

There is no doubt that Miles and Alex have a very special chemistry.

Alex said: "I've always loved vocal harmonies. But, with the Monkeys, we never do that sort of stuff, so the Shadow Puppets is the first time I've ever done it.

"It illustrated to me how enjoyable it all is. It was like being in the Beatles."
